The Arizona Association of School Psychologists (AASP) Minority Scholarship, established in 2017, is offered to reduce financial barriers and recognize the achievements of promising graduate students from historically underrepresented backgrounds who are pursuing a Specialist Degree (or equivalent) in School Psychology. The AASP Executive Board has adopted eligibility criteria and an application process modeled after the National Association of School Psychologists’ (NASP) Minority Scholarship Program.

A primary goal of this scholarship is for each recipient to enter the school community as practicing school psychologists following graduation. In doing so, the program advances AASP's commitment to increasing diversity within the profession and enhancing the delivery of culturally responsive, school-based services to Arizona's diverse student populations.

Award(s) will be announced at the 2026 AASP Annual Conference on November 6, 2026. Funding will be allocated for the Fall or Spring term after the announcement. A scholarship in the amount of $500-$1,000 will be awarded to at least one chosen minority graduate student. All application materials must be received no later than September 15, 2026 at 5:00 PM.

Minority Definitions

• American Indian or Alaskan Native – Persons with origins in the original peoples of North America who maintain identifiable tribal affiliation through membership, participation, or community identification.
• Asian and Pacific Islander – Persons with origins in the Far East, Southeast Asia, the Indian Subcontinent, or the Pacific Islands.
• Black – Persons with origins in Black African racial groups, not of Hispanic origin.
• Hispanic – Persons of Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, Central or South American, or other Spanish culture or origin, regardless of race.

Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for this scholarship, applicants must:

• Be a full-time or part-time minority student.

• Be a United States citizen.

• Be enrolled in or accepted for enrollment in an Educational Specialist or equivalent school psychology program that is NASP-approved and/or located in an institution that is accredited by the Arizona Department of Education.

• Be pursuing a career as a practicing school psychologist.

• Be in good academic standing.

• Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
